Today is our Sabbath instead of Friday, since yesterday my squad and I traveled home from a week in North Carolina, where we helped with disaster relief.

A little background- Last year, Hurricane Helene hit the community of Black Mountain, North Carolina, really hard. Homes were flooded, trees were knocked down, and there were even avalanches that swept away people’s houses. While several organizations have stepped in to help, we had the opportunity to partner with Adventures Relief, a ministry connected to Adventures in Missions (who run The World Race).

This past week has been such a blessing for my team and I! From Monday through Thursday, we worked on homes and properties that were already under construction by Adventures Relief, which just means we weren’t starting from scratch. We got to come alongside what was already being done and be extra hands and feet ready to work.

My team partnered with another team to work on a single home. We did demo work, installed insulation, put up drywall, did mudding and taping, and yes, we made some essential coffee runs. All of this was possible with the help of some absolutely AMAZING ministry leaders who told us and taught us what to do every step of the way. Huge shoutout to Paul and Mike, WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!! They have definitely left a mark on my heart.

I’m incredibly grateful for this week. I’ve learned so much about construction, but even more about the Lord and how He moves in every area of life. One of the biggest things God has shown me is that He sees those who are hurting. He sits with them in their loss. He doesn’t rush past the pain, He’s present in it, and puts people in place to help them.

He’s also been teaching me the power of being present. Instead of being comfortable and mentally checking out, being present in every moment, every experience, and every conversation. Every interaction is an opportunity to show the love of God. Whether it’s offering a word of encouragement or simply having a conversation with someone, showing them that they’re seen and cared for. Why keep that love to ourselves when we can share it with everyone? Why gatekeep?

And speaking of connection, I’ve also grown so much closer to my team! Megan is our team leader, and my teammates are Meridyth, Gabrey, Liv, and Ellie. Every time we get alone time as a team, it’s so precious. We go deep in conversations fueled by love, and we also have the most unhinged fits of laughter. It has been the best time with my team.

One fun update: We’ve officially named our team! We’d been thinking about it for a while, and nothing really clicked. But one night at dinner, Liv was reading from Isaiah 61- the passage is titled “The Year of the Lord’s Favor” (BSB), and I clearly heard the Lord say His favor is upon us. After some prayer and conversation, it was confirmed our team name is now Team FAVOR, inspired by Isaiah 61. 💛

At the end of it all, I can say this past week in Black Mountain was a huge blessing. From helping rebuild a home, to forming new friendships, and creating lasting memories. I am forever grateful for what the Lord is doing and for what’s still to come. Black Mountain now holds a special place in my heart.

Till next time,

Love you byyyeeeee
